What is Keragon for a primary care practice?
Keragon is a HIPAA-compliant AI automation platform for healthcare. It is not an EHR and replaces nothing, and clinical decisions stay with your care team.
Does it work with athenahealth, Elation or my EHR?
Keragon connects 400+ healthcare tools, including athenahealth, Elation, AdvancedMD, Tebra, DrChrono, Charm Health, Healthie, Hint, Cerbo and Canvas Medical, plus your messaging, forms, eligibility and payments. What an Agent can do depends on what each system exposes: where booking is supported, appointments write straight into the schedule, and where it is not, the request goes to your front desk. We run a direct primary care practice. Does it work for us?
Yes. Keragon connects to membership platforms such as Hint, so a new or updated membership can create the patient in your EHR, add them to your messaging tool and send intake. Insurance workflows are optional. The membership connector covers memberships, plans and invoices, so clinical and scheduling steps run through your EHR.
What do I need to connect my EHR?
An account with API access in each system you connect. Some EHR, membership and messaging vendors turn on API access on request or only on certain plans, so ask for it at the start of your trial. Our team can help you through the setup.
Can it check insurance eligibility?
Yes, through a connected eligibility service such as Availity, pVerify, Stedi, Claim.MD or Office Ally, or an EHR that exposes eligibility. Keragon routes the response to your team. An eligibility response is not an authorization or a guarantee of payment, so exceptions follow your review policy.
Can it help with prior authorizations?
It can take on the provider-side paperwork where your tools support it: collecting documents, preparing the request for your team and tracking its status. The payer makes the decision, and your team owns the clinical content.
Can it track referrals and lab results?
Yes, as follow-through, not clinical judgement. In systems such as athenahealth, Elation and AdvancedMD, Keragon can create a task when a result or referral arrives, keep it visible until your team records the outcome, and message the patient once a clinician approves the wording. The responsible clinician interprets every result.
Who actually answers the phone?
A leading voice AI provider does, connected to your primary care EHR by Keragon. You choose the platform, and Keragon conducts it: the caller reaches your real schedule, the booking is written back, and anything clinical or urgent goes to your team. End-to-end HIPAA coverage needs a BAA with your voice provider as well as with Keragon. Many practices start with a missed-call text-back instead.
We already use Zapier. Why switch?

Is Keragon HIPAA-compliant, and do we get a BAA?
Yes. Keragon is HIPAA-compliant and SOC 2 Type II audited, data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and a BAA is included on every paid plan. Every agent action is written to an audit log your team can review.
What happens when a patient asks a clinical question?
The Agent does not answer it. Symptoms, medication questions and anything it is unsure about go to the monitored care-team queue you choose, with the whole message attached, and follow your escalation rules.
Will an Agent approve refills or interpret results?
No. Refill requests are collected and queued for provider sign-off, and results are routed to the responsible clinician. Agents never approve, deny or change a medication, and never tell a patient what a result means.
Will patients know they are talking to AI?
That is your call, and we recommend being open about it. You write the messages and the disclosure wording the Agent uses.
Where does patient data go, and who can see it?
Data moves between the systems you connect and nowhere else. You choose which tools an agent can reach and what it can do in each one, and access is scoped per connection. Details are at keragon.com/security.
